Teamsters Local 135 expanded its unfair labor practice strike against Coca-Cola Consolidated into Ohio on September 22. The picket lines now include facilities in Akron, Toledo, and Twinsburg. More than 300 Ohio workers are currently honoring the strike.
The expansion effectively shut down company operations in those locations, according to the union. The strike originally began on September 2 with nearly 50 workers in Anderson, Indiana.
The union alleges the company engaged in bad faith bargaining during contract negotiations. Workers are demanding fair wages, affordable health care, and improved short-term disability benefits. The union states the company cannot permanently replace workers because the action is an unfair labor practice strike.
