Base blockchain creator Jesse Pollak is stepping down from leading the Base app team, handing over the role to well-known crypto personality Jordan Fish, also known as 'Cobie'. The change follows Pollak's candid admission that Base's earlier bets on "onchain social" features, such as creator coins, fell short and "disintegrated completely" in the first quarter of 2026.

This leadership transition signals a strategic pivot for Base, which will now focus on trading, stablecoin payments, and AI agents. Pollak will shift his own focus to the core infrastructure of the Base blockchain to support this new direction. Fish, who joined Coinbase following the acquisition of his fundraising platform Echo, will now lead the next phase of the Base app's development.
