Coinbase has received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for its clearinghouse, Coinbase Clearing LLC, to operate as a Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO). The registration takes effect September 28, 2026, completing Coinbase’s U.S. derivatives infrastructure, which already includes a regulated derivatives exchange and a futures broker.

The approval allows Coinbase to list, broker and clear certain derivatives products entirely in-house for the first time. The license covers fully collateralized futures, options and swaps, with USDC as a primary collateral asset and 24/7 settlement capabilities.

Coinbase will continue to use third-party clearing partners for its margined derivatives business and other planned products.
