Ciena completes 800Gb quantum-safe transatlantic trial with Colt

Ciena Corp and Colt Technology Services successfully completed a quantum-safe data transmission across the Atlantic. The trial secured live data over a 6,900km subsea network connecting New York and London.

The demonstration utilized Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme encryption technology. It achieved a record 800Gb Ethernet service rate while maintaining network stability.

This milestone addresses the emerging threat of quantum computing breaking traditional encryption methods. The technology protects critical data against harvest now, decrypt later attacks by malicious actors. This trial proves high-speed, quantum-safe connectivity is ready for global deployment.
