Cadence Design Systems has launched Maestro, a portfolio of artificial intelligence models designed to accelerate computer chip design. Developed with Nvidia, the software is built in part on Nvidia’s Nemotron model and aims to automate complex engineering tasks.

Chipmakers can run Maestro models in their own data centers, on public clouds or on Cadence’s cloud. The flexible deployment options contrast with competitor Synopsys’s partnership with OpenAI.

Cadence says early results show its specialized models can deliver up to 30% higher quality than general-purpose AI models. The company also claims they offer five times better cost-efficiency. The first models will be available to select customers in the fourth quarter.
