Barclays appointed Bank of America executive Mike Joo as co-chief executive of its investment banking division. This leadership overhaul aims to improve the lender's standing against major Wall Street competitors.

The restructuring follows a previous reorganization of the investment bank less than three years ago. Joo will oversee the investment banking and global markets divisions within the new structure.

Barclays also hired Jim Hraska, formerly of the DTCC, as the new global head of fixed income prime brokerage.

The bank repurchased and cancelled over 13 million ordinary shares during the past week. This activity continues the firm's existing share buy-back program.
