ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet cautioned the European Union against direct intervention in the semiconductor supply chain. He told the Financial Times that emergency measures to direct chip supplies would be ineffective without a robust local ecosystem.

Fouquet advocated for policies that help companies scale through faster permitting and reduced regulatory burdens. To support this regional growth, ASML intends to increase its investment in European technology companies both inside and outside its traditional supply chain.

The move aims to strengthen a market that currently generates only 1% of ASML’s revenue. By comparison, approximately 80% of the company's revenue originates from Asia.
