Amgen said its drug Imdelltra (tarlatamab), combined with AstraZeneca’s immunotherapy Imfinzi, reduced the risk of death by 58% in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). The results come from the Phase 3 DeLLphi-305 study, which tested the combination as first-line maintenance treatment in patients whose disease had not progressed after initial chemotherapy.
Patients receiving the combination had a median overall survival of 21.1 months. Those treated with Imfinzi alone had a median overall survival of 12.7 months. The trial also met key secondary goals, including a 66% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death. At one year, nearly 80% of patients receiving the combination were alive, compared with 53% of those receiving Imfinzi alone.
The results, described as a watershed moment, were presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress and published simultaneously in The New England Journal of Medicine. Imdelltra is already approved for later-stage SCLC. The findings could support its use earlier in treatment and potentially change the standard of care.
