The FDA approved Juvmo (tavapadon), a once-daily oral treatment for adults with Parkinson’s disease. It can be used alone or alongside levodopa, a standard treatment for the disease.

Juvmo is a partial dopamine D1/D5 receptor agonist. It is designed to offer an alternative to older dopamine agonists, potentially with a more favorable side-effect profile.

The approval is the first for a product stemming from AbbVie’s acquisition of Cerevel Therapeutics two years ago. AbbVie paid $8.7 billion for the company to expand its neuroscience pipeline.

The approval validates AbbVie’s acquisition strategy as the company seeks to diversify its revenue streams and validate its pipeline investments.
