Apple promoted Johny Srouji to Chief Hardware Officer, expanding his previous role as Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies. The promotion is effective immediately and consolidates all hardware efforts under Srouji.

Srouji succeeds John Ternus as head of the main Hardware Engineering group. Ternus is transitioning to become Apple’s new CEO, replacing outgoing CEO Tim Cook.

Srouji is credited as the architect of Apple’s custom silicon strategy, which began with the A4 chip. Cook and Ternus both cited Srouji’s leadership in chip innovation as a core component across all product lines.
