Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. will ban employees from using Anthropic’s Claude Code AI assistant starting July 10, 2026. The company cited security concerns after a Chinese financial publication reported identified backdoor risks within the software.
The decision follows recent friction between the two technology firms. Anthropic alleged in June that individuals linked to Alibaba used fraudulent accounts to extract Claude model capabilities. Alibaba has not publicly addressed these allegations.
Alibaba shares fell 0.7% in Hong Kong trading. The stock underperformed the broader Hang Seng Index, which saw gains during the session.
