Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) will begin mass production of sodium-ion batteries in 2026. Chief Scientist Wu Kai announced the timeline at the 2026 Equipment Power Forum. Wu Kai also serves as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Sodium-ion batteries offer lower raw material costs than traditional lithium-ion products. These batteries provide greater resource availability for the company's near-term portfolio.
