Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) launched trial production at its Debrecen, Hungary facility on September 22, 2026. The company fulfilled all regulatory requirements to begin operations at the €7.3 billion (US$8.35 billion) plant. This facility features a projected annual production capacity of 100 GWh.
The trial phase follows previous delays caused by local environmental and health concerns. Analysts view the factory as a strategic hub for CATL’s expansion into the European market. The site positions the company to fulfill large-scale orders for major automakers including BMW and Volkswagen.
Mass production will commence following the optimization of manufacturing equipment and processes.
