A minority union representing Samsung Electronics consumer electronics workers is seeking to legally suspend a recently ratified wage agreement.

The new pay deal narrowly averted a large-scale strike.

The agreement provides substantial bonuses to employees in the semiconductor division. The AI boom fuels this highly profitable division.

The legal challenge argues the deal creates an unfair and significant compensation gap. Workers in the smartphone and home appliance units receive far smaller bonuses than those in the chip division.

The Samsung Electronics Co Union (SECU) filed for an injunction. SECU claims the process excluded them from the final vote.

The main unions approved the agreement on May 27, 2026.
