Samsung Electronics' largest labor union voted to restrict its membership to employees of the Device Solutions (DS) division, which handles semiconductors. This effectively splits the union from the Device eXperience (DX) division, which covers smartphones and appliances. The move passed with 96.3% approval. 28,680 members voted.
The decision follows months of internal friction. This friction centered on performance bonus distribution and negotiation strategies. The semiconductor division, noted as significantly more profitable, sought to separate. It aimed to pursue its own bargaining interests. The union plans to apply for a separate bargaining unit for future negotiations.
The reorganization expects employees in the DX division to leave the union. Union members also passed no-confidence motions against two officials. These officials were affiliated with the DX division.
